Learning outcomes

After attending this workshop, GPs will be able to:

  • Describe the causes and risks associated with falls, and identify when to refer patients for further assessment
  • Implement a systematic approach to effectively screen and assess patients at risk of falls
  • Recognise the signs of osteoporosis and implement appropriate screening to determine fracture risk
  • Implement appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options for at-risk patient groups
  • Explain the importance of diet and supplements as part of osteoporosis management
  • Develop a tailored exercise plan for at-risk patients to assist with prevention of falls and fractures related to osteoporosis
